Carry-On Bag

What Should Go in your Carry-On Bag (And What Shouldn’t)

Have you ever felt a little anxious before going through security at the airport, wondering if you have something in your carry-on you shouldn’t have? Most times, there is nothing to worry about. But sometimes, you can end up having something in there that can land you in trouble instead of your destination simply because you weren’t aware.

On the other side, you could realise that you missed an item you should have had in there, i.e., your charger, only when it’s too late. Either of these situations can leave you feeling vexed.

To help you avoid these situations, we’ve listed some things you should have in your carry-on and things that you shouldn’t.

What should Go in the Carry-On:

  • First things first-travel documents. This includes your passport, visa (if needed), boarding pass, travel insurance and other related documents
  • The tech stack you can’t go a day without- laptop, tab, phone, chargers and headphones
  • Your prescription medications and over-the-counter remedies you might need
  • Hygiene essentials; toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, hand sanitiser and face wipes
  • Your comfort items; a neck pillow, eye mask, earplugs, and a blanket
  • Snacks such as nuts, granola bars or crackers
  • A change of clothes and underwear in case of unexpected circumstances like delayed luggage
  • A book, magazine, or e-reader to keep you entertained
  • A refillable water bottle to stay hydrated while on your flight to avoid the added expense of branded water bottles
  • Cash and Credit Cards in case of emergencies.

What Shouldn’t Go in the Carry-On:

  • Weapons of any kind, including firearms, knives, and other sharp objects considered harmful
  • Liquids including shampoo, conditioner, or sunscreen over 100ml
  • Explosives and flammable items, including fireworks, gunpowder, gasoline, and aerosol cans
  • Batteries, such as lithium-ion batteries, must be packed and carried a certain way if you absolutely have to. Check guidelines
  • Sporting equipment, including golf clubs, hockey sticks, and baseball bats
  • Illegal items, including drugs and counterfeit goods
  • If anything feels like it shouldn’t be in the carry-on, leave it at home.
